Astro
From Astro Empires Wiki
An Astro is the name given to any celestial body in Astro Empires. Planets, Moons and Asteroids are examples of Astros in AE. This page is to cover the basics of what is an Astro, what types there are and where you might find one.

[edit] What do you do with Astros
Astros are the building blocks of your empire. You build you bases on Astros which become your territory. It is not possible to have more than one player colonise a single Astro but multiple players can be in the same system which can make wars much more interesting.
Each type of Astro has its own unique characteristics which can make them desirable for some uses while untouchable for others. Knowing the difference between which Astros are good for what can make all the difference when starting in the game.
[edit] Location
An Astro's location is a series of numbers that look like this: B11:22:33:45. The "B" signifies the server in which the Astro is located, in this case Beta Server. The "11" signifies the galaxy, the "22" signifies the region, and "33" signifies the system. "4" indicates which orbital the Astro is in, and "5" denotes its position within that orbital. For more information on how the universe and galaxies are set out look at the Celestial Map.
[edit] Unknown Worlds
When a Astro is in a region you do not have a ship or base in you are unable to see the details of the Astro or base. Thus the image of the Astro comes up with a ‘?’ image. If you want to see what type of Astro it is send a ship into that region.
[edit] Astro Stats
Each Astro has its own set of stats. These are determined by the type of Astro, whether it is a planet, Asteroid or Moon and its Orbital. For more information on which planet type does what see the Astro Type|Astro types section.
[edit] Area
Area is the amount of space you have on your Astro. Each building with the exception of a couple of orbital structures take up 1 unit of area. This area can be anything from 65 to 95 depending on what type of Astro you have chosen. Area is not set as you can use Terraform and Multi-level Platforms to increase the space on your Astro.
[edit] Solar
Solar is the amount of power your planet gets from your systems sun. This can be utilised by Solar Plants into Power which you can use to keep your base running. The solar rating of your base is dependent on its Orbital. On the first orbital its 4, 3 in the second and continues like this until 0. There is no way to improve the base Solar of your planet.
[edit] Fertility
Fertility is the amount your base's population will rise with each level of Urban Structures. Each and every structure you build on your Astro takes up a single population (Except Terraform, Multilevel Platforms). ‘Biosphere Modification’ can rise your fertility. Astros in the second and third orbitals get +1 fertility.
[edit] Metal
Metal is the amount your base's Production and Construction will rise with each level of Metal Refineries’. The Metal Refineries will make up the core of your base. Metal is dependent on the planet selection you make, and can vary from 1 to 3 metal. There is no way to improve the base Metal of your planet.
[edit] Gas
Gas is the amount of power your planet gets from the gas buried deep in its core. This can be utilised by Gas Planets into Power which you can use to keep your base running. The Gas rating of your base is dependent on its Orbital and the type of planet you have selected. Planets in the 4th and 5th orbital get +1 to Gas. There is no way to improve the base Gas of your planet.
[edit] Crystals
Crystals are a precious resource on your planet that can be utilised for an economy boost. With each level of Crystal Mines your economy will be raised by the value of the Crystals. The amount of Crystals on your planet is dependent on which type of planet you choose and can be from 0 to 3. Crystal 3 planets are very rare in the universe. There is no way to improve the base Crystal of your planet.
[edit] Planets vs Moons
Almost all types of Astro have two sub-types. The Planet and Moon. Planets have 9-12 more area than the moon of the same type however moons get a 50% discount of Planetary Rings and Planetary Shields. This makes defence alot cheaper and quicker to build up on Moons however of course you have less space which will increase your Terraform and Multi-level Platforms costs. Which to choose? That's up to you. Generally players with upgraded accounts (and no limits on MLP and Terraforms) prefer moons while players on free accounts prefer planets.
[edit] Astro Types
[edit] Arid
Arids are generally used as research bases due to their large area (the area of the moon is larger than some planets) and their relatively high fertility. They are also used as jumpgate bases for the same reasons. One of the bases you can start with.Arid astros have a frozen baren surface.
| Metal | Gas | Crystal | Fert | Area Planet | Area Moon |
| 2 | 2 | 0 | 5 | 95 | 83 |
[edit] Asteroid
Asteroids are used mainly for economy because of the two crystals coupled with the fact that Biosphere Modification, Planetary Shields and Planetary Rings cost significantly less than on other astros. They are also used as Production Base hybrid Free accounts generally avoid asteroids because of their small area.
| Metal | Gas | Crystal | Fert | Area |
| 3 | 1 | 2 | 4 | 65 |
[edit] Craters
Craters are generally used as production bases because of their high metal. Players who are new to the game also use them for their small crystal amount, although this is inadvisable as the area could better be used for a metal refinery which would provide the same economy with +3 construction and production too.
| Metal | Gas | Crystal | Fert | Area Planet | Area Moon |
| 3 | 1 | 1 | 4 | 85 | 75 |
[edit] Crystalline
The most coveted of all Astros (many players regularly try to buy and sell them on the forum - which is not allowed); despite the low fertility and area. They are used solely as economic bases because of their high crystal level. As well as having the highest crystal level of any astro, they are rare and quickly colonised by players which is why they are so coveted. Some players advocate getting as many crystalline bases as possible, but some think the compromise on fertility, area and metal (compared to a rocky astro) isn't worth the economic boost.
| Metal | Gas | Crystal | Fert | Area Planet | Area Moon |
| 2 | 1 | 3 | 4 | 80 | 71 |
[edit] Earthly
Used primarily as research bases due to their high area and high Fertility. Rarely used for other purposes and generally disliked.
| Metal | Gas | Crystal | Fert | Area Planet | Area Moon |
| 2 | 2 | 0 | 6 | 85 | 75 |
[edit] Gaia
The extremely high fertility and area along with an acceptable level of metal make these good Research bases.
| Metal | Gas | Crystal | Fert | Area Planet | Area Moon |
| 2 | 2 | 0 | 6 | 90 | 79 |
[edit] Glacial
One of the worst planets in the game. Not generally used because of their low metal, meant to be avoided when possible even with high Fertility.
| Metal | Gas | Crystal | Fert | Area Planet | Area Moon |
| 1 | 2 | 0 | 5 | 95 | 83 |
[edit] Magma
Make good Jumpgate bases because of high gas and decent fertility. Aim for Orbital 4 or 5 were possible for maximum Gas. Magma, Toxic and Volcanic's are the only Astros capable of getting 5 Gas.
| Metal | Gas | Crystal | Fert | Area Planet | Area Moon |
| 2 | 4 | 0 | 5 | 80 | 71 |
[edit] Metallic
The same as craters only with a higher gas level. Generally used for Production bases when Rocky's are unavailable.
| Metal | Gas | Crystal | Fert | Area Planet | Area Moon |
| 3 | 2 | 1 | 4 | 85 | 75 |
[edit] Oceanic
One of the worst planets in the game. Not generally used because of their low metal, meant to be avoided when possible even with high Fertility.
| Metal | Gas | Crystal | Fert | Area Planet | Area Moon |
| 1 | 2 | 0 | 6 | 80 | 71 |
[edit] Radioactive
Used for research or jumpgates (because of high gas levels and areas), one of the bases that the game can start with.
| Metal | Gas | Crystal | Fert | Area Planet | Area Moon |
| 2 | 3 | 0 | 4 | 90 | 79 |
[edit] Rocky
Generally make the best production bases in the game, because of the high metal, high fertility and good area. They also make excellent all-round bases providing research capacity, economy and production.
| Metal | Gas | Crystal | Fert | Area Planet | Area Moon |
| 3 | 2 | 0 | 5 | 85 | 75 |
[edit] Toxic
Identical to Radioactives only with more gas. Sometimes used for research bases or Jumpgates.
| Metal | Gas | Crystal | Fert | Area Planet | Area Moon |
| 2 | 4 | 0 | 4 | 90 | 79 |
[edit] Tundra
Identical to Arids, another one of the bases you can start with. It is sometimes used as a research base.
| Metal | Gas | Crystal | Fert | Area Planet | Area Moon |
| 2 | 2 | 0 | 5 | 95 | 83 |
[edit] Volcanic
Similar to toxics and radioactive. Sometimes used for Research and Jumpgate bases.
