The history behind this small guild may be controversial to some, but I'll try to keep it as neat as possible.
[edit] The UFP Days
The core of this guild is formed of former players from a guild known as the United Federation of Planets (founder, J.A.B.). UFP was a guild meant to unify newbies into a safe environment, so that they could survive long enough to learn the ropes of the game. The effect, some say, was to unify newbs into one large piggy-bank guild; yet some players which still call UFP home are progressing quite nicely. However, UFP had many internal troubles.
Since the beginning, UFP tried to make their guild structure different from most guilds. They wanted to implement a stable democracy for peacetime, replaced seamlessly by a field commander during war. This was fine in theory, but UFP was a very peace-loving guild. Also, democracy left UFP vulnerable to subversion; as proved to be the case. Until one day a player known as Mr.Vicchio deleted his account in utter frustration, got a new one, and ran off with some of UFP's members. This led to a severe rift within the guild, and ended with several members forming their own guild, which they named the Small Empire Alliance.
[edit] Growing Pains
S.E.A began ranked in the high forties, as relative to the other guilds. From here, S.E.A began to build itself by growing the members it already had. We adopted a strict recruiting doctrine that was basically this: If we don't know you, buzz off. We kept to ourselves, not willing to become embroiled in any new conflicts; but it was not long until conflict came to us. 3PO, the Power Puff Pizzas or whatever those eggheads call themselves, attacked one of our most beloved members (Bachai, if memory serves). Of course, we really couldn't let that go, so we immediately launched fleet toward their planets' last known location - which, since the highest level JG in the guild happened to be my level 6, would have taken absofrickinglutely forever. While the fleets were in flight, however, we got them to back off, and we recalled our fleets home. While this was occurring, another of our members became snarled in a conflict with a higher level player, EAA's DarkAce. Very long story (seriously, like three months this was going on) made very short, DarkAce thought one of our members (OX) had "stolen" a crystal moon from him. In reality, the situation was this: DarkAce had sent an outpost ship to the crystal, Ox blew it up, then hustled an OS of his own to the planet. Ox then colonized it, making it impossible for DarkAce to take it. Our position was A.) You can't steal someone's planet if it actually belongs to them, and B.) Naked OS's are asking to get pwned, especially over a crystal. This logic was overwhelmed, however, by the fact that DarkAce's ships' guns tend to drown out our rhetorical prowess. Eventually, we found DarkSlet another crystal and pacified him with that.
[edit] Guild Structure
We, the founding members, decided to eschew a formal guild leadership structure at all - we approached guild activity with a sort of mutual loyalty; you watch my back, I'll watch yours. In fact, it was about eight months before S.E.A finally got around to making itself a formal guild structure. When we finally did, it was made of five "Elders," who got to do cool things like recruit, start training guilds, declare war, tell people to go screw themselves, conduct actual DIPLOMACY once in a while (whenever our meager fleets weren't enough to scare them off) and other guildmaster junk like that. Each Elder was assigned a rough idea of what they were s'posed to do; Mr.Vicchio was and is in charge of blowin' sh** up, since he's a Texan; Falconous Jackal is in charge of training les newbies; GReaper is in charge of diplomacy (and is helped by Eva Augustus); Bulldog is our grouchy, hammer-fleeted friend of Mr.Vicchio (those two feed off of each others' aggressiveness...); and Bachai is our general peace, love, 'n happiness morale leader (basically he cooks and tells jokes - think Batman's Alfred, just to tell you how awesome he is...) The rest of us are just grunts. We get to say whatever we want, whenever we want - just not to anyone outside the guild! All of that has to go through the Elders, soz we other nutters don't cause confusion (like warring Borg, for example...that would suck.)
